About Us
The mission of Sons of Norway is to promote and to preserve the heritage and culture of Norway, to celebrate our relationship with other nordic countries, and provide quality insurance and financial products to its members.
SONS OF NORWAY was organized on January 16, 1895 by 18 Norwegian immigrants in Minneapolis, MN. Immigrants arriving and settling in America felt a loyalty to this new land, but they still held a deep love for their homeland, and a concern for their fellow Norwegians who had also chosen to resettle in the US. The founders of SON wished to provide protection for their fellow Norwegians and their families from the financial hardships experienced during times of sickness or death in the family. Over time, the mission of SON has expanded to include the preservation of Norwegian heritage and culture in the new country.
FJELLDALEN LODGE was organized on July 24, 1995 with focus to serve persons of Norwegian descent in the south and east of the Denver metropolitan area. Over time, membership in the Denver lodges crisscrosses from all areas of the city. Fjelldalen is a friendly lodge, and welcomes all who wish to join us for our meetings and programs. We strive to keep our meetings short, and to focus on interesting programs which expand our knowledge about Norway - then and now. Members are encouraged to share their own Norwegian experiences and history. We currently offer classes in the Norwegian language; Norwegian cooking; Norwegian hardanger - a Norwegian style stitching; a book group concentrating on Norwegian authors; and genealogy. Please see our calendar for dates, places and contact information.
SONS OF NORWAY continues to offer insurance and financial programs to members. A Colorado based Financial Benefits Counselor is available at meetings and/or for private, personal contact by appointment.
